Markings

Markings on the road are like punctuation, or stage directions for actors.  Think of a Give Way line as a comma, for example.

Because markings are on the road surface, it's hard to see them as early as signs, especially when wet, or dark, or worn away by traffic.  So look ahead for any "vertical info" (= signs) first.

Markings are either WHITE = guidance ; YELLOW = restriction ; or RED = prohibition.  Colour/texture of the road itself has no legal meaning, but may change to draw your attention.

Don't cross SOLID lines (unless in emergency), but drive over BROKEN lines (if necessary, e.g., to pass an obstruction).
