Would it be sensible to combine a roundabout with a crossroads? Evidently.
Such is the idea on trial in Manchester, based on examples in other countries. Cycles move around the junction clockwise (i.e. one-way) while motor vehicles wait at stop lines before using a conventional “controlled crossroads“. Traffic lights tell which lot when to go.
In the graphic, red is for pedestrian use, green for cycles, and tarmac for mmotors. Click it for more detail.
