Observing
Know what's around you before you act. This means before moving off and stopping, or before changing speed or direction.
It also means noticing (1) what's happening ahead, (2) clues for what MIGHT happen, and (3) where to look for early signs of other road users. Check "over, under, round, and through". This means thinking about how you should respond to what you see, not just looking or seeing. That's the difference between observations of hazards, and EFFECTIVE observations of them. All this is well illustrated by emergency ambulance drivers. |
